Top 10 running songs with female vocals
What are your top 10 running songs?
I find that so many top 10 lists are dominated by men, and this is particularly so with top 10 running songs lists! The last poll by Runners World was full of men, with Eminem taking out the top spot with “Lose Yourself”.
Florence and the Machine featured in the top 8, but no other females were there. Now since HalfMarathonGirl.com is all about bringing a little bit of girl power to your running, I thought it was time to even the numbers out a little. I decided to take matters into my own hands and make my very own list, featuring female vocalists.
Don’t get me wrong, I love tons of songs by guys, and “Eye of the Tiger” will always be a race anthem. But let’s celebrate females in music, and add some of them to our running playlists.
I’ll share my top 10 pop tracks with you, show you a bonus playlist ready for you to plug and play, and then let you in on my favorite music of all time (all featuring fabulous females) 🙂
The joys of running with music
There are many benefits of running with music
- trying to smash out some awesome intervals? Put some fast beats on and get into it.
- need to clear your head? Try some relaxing vibes for a slower jog.
- got a long session to get through? Why not build a playlist that has a mixture of songs, designed to keep your energy levels up or your pace sustained throughout?
But DON’T FORGET: safety should be your priority at all times, and I wouldn’t recommend running with music at night, on busy roads, or any other situation where you need to be vigilant about your surroundings.
My top 10 running songs with female vocals
In no particular order, the top ten are:
- Florence and the Machine: The Dog Days are Over
- Katy Perry: Roar
- Lorde: Royals (go kiwi!)
- Beyonce: Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)
- Rihanna: Disturbia
- Kelly Clarkson: Since U Been Gone
- Sia: Chandolier
- Kylie Minogue: Can’t Get You Out of My head
- Dj Fresh feat Rita Ora: Hot Right Now
- Lady Gaga: Born This Way
And for extra listening pleasure, here’s a playlist that has already been put together for you. This set is not specifically for women, but it is definitely very feminine 🙂
And now for my very favorites
I am a bit of an electronic dance music fiend (that’s a story for another day). In particular, I LOVE Drum N Bass, and always have. I feel a little old to go to parties any more, but the music still fills me with joy, it makes me want to jump around the room!
Needless to say, I find it perfect running music: it’s so energizing for me. Drum N Bass has a very fast beat so it’s quite well suited to shorter distances or intervals; any run where you want to push yourself or do some speed work.
So here you go, an alternative drum n bass top 3 running songs, all featuring females.
- DJ Fresh: Gold Dust
- Shy FX: Shake Your Body
- Breakbeat Era: Our Disease
You might not have heard Drum N Bass before (or maybe you have and don’t know it: “Hot Right Now” is actually a DnB tune), so let me provide you with a wee taster. This is Gold Dust from DJ Fresh, my absolute favorite tune for any time, particularly running time, right now.
So there ya have it, your new favorite running music, featuring lots of lovely, talented ladies.
Do you have a favorite running tune? Let me know, I’d love to check it out.
