Prettiest?

Today, we talk the best running skirts

Hey there.

So since my post about the pros and cons of running skirts, an article on the best running skirts available is a little overdue.

I’ve also decided it’s time for me to give one a try! Perhaps I’ll even start a new trend here in New Zealand! (Like I’ve said before, I have never ever seen anyone wearing one around this part of the world).

Since there aren’t many running skirts available here, I’ve been doing a lot of my research online, and thought I’d share my results with you so you can choose your next running skirt without having to trawl the internet for hours.

I’m sharing the results for skirts that had reviews, both good and bad. Gotta have some balance! But boy oh boy. There are a ton of skirts out there! I hope you enjoy the ones I’ve chosen to tell you about, and I’ve only looked at those with built in shorts or briefs (aka skorts). Make sure you read right til the end, I’ll tell you which one I’ve ordered 🙂

ADIDAS RUNNING SKIRT

The Adidas Climaliteadidas running skirt

Sizes: S, M, L, XL

Features:

-This simple and clean looking skirt is black, but with a pop of color on the waistband (6 colors available). It has an elastic waist and a pleated front.

-Note the inner shorts are the same color as whatever your waistband color, so be aware that if you buy this skirt for the green waistband, the shorts will be green, too!

-There is a pocket on the shorts

Pros:

Lightweight and feminine, but still functional. It is quite flattering with a bit of flare in the skirt (I much prefer this over some of the straight cuts)

Cons:

Some people have commented that the inner shorts ride up when running. Hmm.

ASICS RUNNING SKIRTS

Asics Love Skortasics running skirts

Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL

Features:

-This skort comes in white, black, navy, red, royal blue: with a white stripe down the side.

-Like the Climalite, it also has some cute pleats.

-This skirt is very versatile, and is the preferred choice for lots of golfers and tennis players.

Pros:

Lots of ladies report these shorts stay in place well

Cons:

The skirt material heavier than some of the others reviewed here. And there is no pocket (sob).

Asics Women’s PR Performance Run 4-Way Stretch Skort

This color is “verve”, in case you were wondering

Sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL

Features:

-This is my favorite looking skirt. It comes in magenta (pink), black, and verve (orange). Note that all three come with the same color short (I’m going to call it plum).

-Has handy pocket built into shorts

-Flat stitch construction (more comfortable, in other words)

– The skirt has overlapping side construction (in other words, a split) for greater ease of movement

Pros:

Reported to be comfortable. I love the cute color combos. Pocket is a plus. The split sounds like it would be easier to run in.

Cons:

Some women found it a bit short. One found it a bit flimsy and the flapping annoyed them when running (I’m going to take a punt and guess that most skirts would do this though?). I don’t have too many negatives for this skirt, but the language used in its advertising was pretty darn flowery, look at how much translating I’ve just had to do for you!

NIKE RUNNING SKIRTS

Nike Women’s Dri-Fit Knit Running Skirt with Built in Briefsnike running skirts

Sizes: XS, S M, L, XL

Features:

-This skirt comes in two combos, either teal and green (pictured..not so sure about that one) or blue and black.

-Unlike most of the other skirts here, these ones have built in briefs instead of shorts. This will suit some people well, whereas others might prefer more coverage from a short.

– Built in pocket.

Pros:

This skirt is reported to be easy to wear and comfortable.

Cons:

Some felt it was a bit short for running. I wonder if some of this is due to the lack of coverage from having briefs not shorts built in?

CHEAP RUNNING SKIRTS

PUMA Women’s Running Skort

Sizes: S, M, L, XLcheap running skirts

Features:

-This pretty skirt comes in purple (oooh! my favorite), black, and pink.

– Reflective details to help keep you safe.

– Has a pocket: this is a bit different to the other skirts as in it is a zip on the outside of the skirt. I think it’s pretty cute actually!

Pros:

This skirt is quite pretty with its good color range and outer zip. It’s reported to be very comforatable to run in and the shorts reportedly don’t ride up.

Cons:

To be honest, I hunted, but couldn’t find anything negative. One personal comment: the shape of this looks a bit boxier than some of the others. This will suit some body shapes, but I think a flared one is better for me personally.

Spiro Ladies/Womens Windproof Quick Dry Sports Skort

cheap running skirtsSizes: Well well! Here are some detailed size guidelines for you, much more specific than those I saw for other skirts. This one is available in the following US sizes: S (Dress Size: 8, Waist (ins): 32), M (Dress Size: 10, Waist (ins): 34), L (Dress Size: 12, Waist (ins): 36), XL (Dress Size: 14, Waist (ins): 38), 2XL (Dress Size: 16, Waist (ins): 40).

Features:

-This no-fuss skirt is available in black, white, and navy.

-It has flat stitching and built in pants rather than shorts (like the Nike skirt).

– Spiro markets this skirt as windproof…which seems kinda weird to me!

Pros:

Comes in great colors, but not too flashy for those of you who are sick of bright pink running gear! It is comfortable and again the reflective logo is good for safety. It is the only skirt I saw that had a 2XL size option.

Cons:

In my research, the price was dependent on size, which I think is a bit mean. Lots of ladies reported the sizes run small so please note this if purchasing this skirt. Like the Asics Love, this skirt has no pocket (again, sob).

My verdict:

Well. Pretty much all the skirts scored well for comfort and ease of wear. Which you would kind of expect, wouldn’t you?! So that was encouraging. That left me to make my decision based on color, pockets, shorts, and cut. So which did I choose……

My choice:
best running skirts

The winner!

So I’ve ordered a black Asics women’s PR. I love the contrasting color in the shorts, the split in the skirt, and the pocket. I’ll have to let you know if the flapping is annoying in the wind though!

And in second place:

Puma. Its purple! It has a pocket! With a zip! For its price, the Puma is the best choice in my opinion, but I could not purchase it for myself because I was worried about the shape.

Do you run in a skirt? Let me know your favorite in the comments, perhaps I’ll give it a try! Also drop me a line if there’s a running product you’d like me to review for you 🙂
