Sometimes no matter how much we love running, we just can’t drag ourselves out that door.motivational quotes for running

This can be an indication that you need a rest day, or maybe you just need some motivation to get you going again.

If it’s the latter, you’ll want to keep reading. Sometimes a beautifully phrased quote can sum up exactly what we’re feeling, or exactly what we need to hear. I’ve collected my five favorite motivational quotes for running: hopefully these will inspire you to get out the door. Now!

Remember, the feeling you get from a good run is far better than the feeling you get from sitting around wishing you were running.

Sarah Condor

This quote reminds us that we’ll always feel better going for that run that if we didn’t. This one is my favorite personal motivator, particularly when I’m feeling tired (or a bit grumpy for that matter… I know I’ll be more grumpy with myself for sitting around!)

I always thought of running as just dancing forward.

– Tom Hiddleston

This one reminds us that running is a joy; something positive. Sure, we all have days where running seems like a chore and that we’re plodding. Sure, there are days when we’re better off having a rest day. But most of the time, we run because we love it. This is a cool reminder of that. Remind yourself of this one next time you’re toughing it out through a tough patch in a long run, it will lighten your step and bring a smile to your face.

If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run.

– John Bingham

motivational quotes for runningFeeling like you’re not quite where you’d like to be with your running? Didn’t do as well in that race as you would have liked? Fee like you’re too slow to call yourself a runner? Be kind to yourself. You are a runner, and you are awesome at it, because you do it. I’m a runner, and I love being a runner.

If you want to win something, run 100 meters. If you want to experience something, run a marathon.

– Emil Zapotek

A big part of running is the experiences and memories we get from it….our first race, the new friend we made, the view we saw. Running longer distances will help build all of these things for you. We live in a world where lots of things are fast or instant, and this quote reminds us to enjoy the experiences along the way.

Running is a road to self awareness and reliance – you can push yourself to extremes and learn the harsh reality of your physical and mental limitations or coast quietly down a solitary path watching the earth spin beneath your feet.

– Doris Brown Heritage

Running can be different things to us on different days. Feeling a bit down? Take a slow, meditative run to help clear your mind. It’s okay if that’s all the run is for. Feeling competitive? Go push yourself to a 5k PB. That’s okay too. Running serves us many different purposes.
